Should You Plan For A Divorce

When your child was born did you ever imagine you would be a single parent? In a country with a divorce rate like ours it almost seems silly that we didn’t plan for this possibility. We plan for everything else, even who would take care of our children in the event of our death but not how we would take care of them if our marriage fell apart. It seems like the opposite of wishful thinking to plan for being a single parent, no one wants to think that their marriage won’t make it. All of us at one time, … Continue reading

A Handful of Healthy Freebies

It seems as though it is much easier to subsist solely on junk food than it is to seek out healthier food choices. If you have any doubts about this bit of common sense, try going on a diet. Your perceptions about food will instantly change. Health foods, and health products, are expensive. Fortunately, every once in a while, you can find some healthy things for absolutely free. I recently started the Atkins diet. So far, I have spent some money on the book, as well as quite a few varieties of the Atkins food products. It turns out that … Continue reading

Easter Freedom

My daughter and I have always been exceptionally close. I chock it up to the hours and hours she spent attached to my breast while she was an infant. And by hours I mean days. Actually, months. Okay, years. The kid nursed for the first two-and-a-half years of her life. My bosom buddy is six now and breastfeeding has been replaced with quality time doing other things together, such as reading, playing tennis, taking hikes and playing with Barbie’s urinating pups. Whereas my daughter is in full-day school this year, I still pepper our playtime with little lessons, including stranger … Continue reading

Simple Easter Project

Time is ticking down to the great sugar rush. My daughter has a list made to leave out for the Easter Bunny in hopes that she can persuade him to leave a few toys instead of the traditional chocolate eggs and pretty Peeps. Wishful thinking, kiddo. She also wants to leave out something more for the bunny (besides carrots) to sweeten him up a bit, you know, just in case. Of course, she came to me to see what “goodies” I had to leave out. I suggested lettuce, but upon further consideration I decided that it might make the bunny … Continue reading

Feel Good Cleaning Products

Nothing makes me happier than an empty dishwasher and a full refrigerator. I mean, really, is there anything in life more pleasing to a busy mom than a clean house? Other than it staying clean for more than 45 minutes? Or having a band of cleaning fairies sweep into your home each week and sanitize it from top to bottom for free? All wishful thinking; still, there is something to be said about feel good cleaning. For some, using eco-friendly cleaning products that don’t force them to compromise their ethics is one way to make cleaning more tolerable. Organic cleaners … Continue reading

A 12 Hour Car Trip

I am about to take a 12 hour car trip with my two kiddos. Traveling with children is hard no matter how old they are, and unfortunately, in today’s economy, more and more people are hitting the roads as a way to save money. I am traveling to visit my sister just 2 states over, but I’m sure when I get in the car with two kids, ages 4 and 2, it will feel like worlds away. This will be the first time I have ever embarked on an adventure like this. And, to be honest, it sounds a little … Continue reading

A Secret Nursery

I have a son that goes to the nursery, and he loves it. He gets to play, and run around, and have fun during the first two hours of church. But, somehow, during Sacrament meeting, which is last in my ward, he still manages to be a handful. He is tired, hungry, ready for a nap, and ends up just wanting to squirm in our laps for the entire last hour of church. It can be exhausting. There was one Sunday not too long ago where I just turned to my husband after 45 minutes of kids crying, getting up … Continue reading

A Fresh Home Based Business Idea

I must admit, I have a very bad case of spring fever right now. It started a few weeks ago, and it is getting worse by the day. Even though it is still cold out, I have been outside for at least a little while each day and I have definitely noticed that it is getting dark just a little bit later. All of this wishful thinking about warmer weather made me think about gardening. If you enjoy gardening and you are thinking about starting a home-based business, perhaps you could grow and sell herbs. As an herb grower, you … Continue reading

Summer Scrapping

If you are like me, then you have a mountain of photos taken from your family’s summer adventures sitting on your desk waiting to be placed in a scrapbook. I have a million of ideas for summer-themed layouts, but have yet to organize all of the elements needed to create the perfect book. My goal is to have all 1000-plus summer photos sorted by Christmas… I mean… the end of September. Wishful thinking? Maybe. Here are some of the layouts I have been working on: PICNIC Layout featuring a picnic basket. I have a large die cut of a picnic … Continue reading

Recipes for Leftover Easter Chocolate

After a quick search on Google I’ve come to the conclusion that the words “leftover” and “chocolate” are rarely used in the same sentence. I suppose after the collective sugar coma most of us endured on Easter; there wouldn’t be so much as a tip of a chocolate bunny’s ear left amongst the plastic grass and broken eggs. Then again, my family rarely follows conventional wisdom. Despite the sugar fest that took place here last week, we still had a basket full of chocolate sitting on the kitchen counter. The leftover chocolate taunted me for days, and a few hours … Continue reading
