Introduction - What are "tags"?

Tags are a new way of navigating. Unlike traditional navigation menus, tags are based on how relevant something is rather than where the web master thought it would be good to put it. Tags are used in much the same way as you might use labels in your day-to-day life; you put little notes on the things you need to remember, and you can come back to them at a later time.

How tags work

In order to tag pages, you must first register with us. Once you're registered, you've got free reign to tag anything you want. Tag an article, tag a review, tag a product -- who knows, one day you may even be able to tag a tag itself.

Interested yet? Go ahead and give it a try with this page. We're confident that you'll love tagging just as much as we do.

It would be cool if I had a place where i could look up a list of all the tags I have made.

Kevin (1275) 06 Sep 2005 02:57 AM

We agree! Expect to see this feature added shortly.

ufkitty79 (40) 13 Sep 2005 04:08 PM

I have tagged things, but they are not being recorded on the little meter...

Recently, I asked what a tag was---you answered ! Now I ask---how do you do it ?

Sincerely, Lori Weis

To start tagging, go to the bottom of any article and click on "add tags" in the dark green box. It will then give you a white box to enter your tags and an "add" button to click when you have entered your tags. It's that simple.

We haven't yet implemented a method for deleting tags, as it causes a few problems with regards to determining the relative popularity of a tag, but we're working on a few possible solutions and should have something implemented shortly.

THanks =)

Sorry, maybe I'm just slow...but what is tagging and how is it done???

bluetree (2947) 29 Nov 2005 05:13 PM

hockeymom..when you are logged in you can tag an article with what you want to remember it by or to label it in a way that will help the families.com community find it. once you read an article, and are logged in, click 'add tags' and start adding tags one at a time in the form that appears. have fun!

I noticed there is a tag option on the blog entries, but I have had not been able to tag mine? Are the blogs tagable?

Kevin (1275) 12 Feb 2006 11:51 PM

Everything is taggable that has the tag form at the bottom.

tpthunder (25) 14 Feb 2006 09:36 PM

momof2girls (25) 07 Mar 2006 08:06 PM

Very interesting on the way to keep up with stuff on here.

Carson Hopkins (790) 10 Mar 2006 09:49 PM

One thing that's nice is that you can log in and click 'My Tags' at the top. When you do that you see everything you have tagged. I am using it as a way to save my favorite articles and blog posts on the site.

I will give this a try. Marjorie Dorfman, Pop Culture

Tags are great, but I wish there was a way to delete them if you make an error. I've seen a few typos and I've even made a couple and wish I could erase them. Will that ever be available?

bluetree (2947) 09 May 2006 01:02 AM

nic, the ability to delete tags is coming in a week or two as a part of a large families.com upgrade...

TGONZALES (47) 15 Jul 2006 10:21 AM

So do you tag say, one topic under a specific forum? How do you tag it?

bluetree (2947) 15 Jul 2006 11:18 PM

T - basically you tag anything you like with a word that will help you remember (and tell the community) what something is about. so if you find an article on babies, you could tag it 'baby' and then when you go to your mysite (profile page) you can click on the tags link to see what you tagged (or bookmarked really) as baby....

bluetree (2947) 15 Jul 2006 11:19 PM

go to any blog article and at the bottom you can tag it, assuming you are logged in

notthenanny (86) 12 Feb 2007 06:39 PM

so what do you do? just click on a tag?

Meg (50) 10 Mar 2007 07:21 PM

I keep trying to add tags, but it is not showing up on my list....#%$^@&. My points are going up, but the tags are not appearing anywhere! What am I doing wrong?
