When Reality TV Becomes Too Real

I’ve never watched the reality show “Swamp People,” but I’ve heard about it. This week, one of the guys on the show died. Mitchell Guist, an alligator hunter, died Monday, just four days shy of turning 49. Someone reportedly saw him fall into the water after having what they described as a seizure, although the cause of death hasn’t been officially released. “Swamp People” has been showing on the History channel since 2010 and is currently in its third season. It covers the activities of several Louisianans who hunt alligators for a living. Mitchell and his brother Glenn have been … Continue reading

Conjoined Twins May Soon Have Reality TV Series

Tatiana and Krista Hogan are twin sisters, who are currently four years old. The first thing most people would notice about these two girls is that they are conjoined at the head. Despite this, they each have a very distinct and separate personality from each other. There is some talk that the girls may, someday, be featured on a reality television show, based on their family. The term conjoined twin is relatively new. In the past, the most commonly used term for this condition was “Siamese twins”. This could be in reference to two famous brothers, Chang and Eng. They … Continue reading

American Idol I had mentioned before that 17-year-old David Archuleta’s dad is reportedly a true stage parent and the rumors are still swirling. An unnamed source has told Associated Press that now that David has made the final three, his dad is officially banned from the rehearsals. Word is that Jeff Archuleta was told by “American Idol” producers that he could no longer join David as he prepares for the show. What cause the producers to finally snap and ban Jeff? According to the AP article, Jeff insisted on a lyric change in the song “Stand by Me,” which David … Continue reading

Big week for reality television as American Idol narrows them down, Big Brother finishes up, and a new show start. First up, American Idol whittled the contestants down to five as Irish beauty Carly Smithson was eliminated this week. There had been a bit of controversy over Carly as she had previously had a recording contract but managed to sell less than 500 copies and was dropped. She had good weeks and bad week on Idol this year, but this week was her final as she was the bottom vote getter over Syesha (who had an amazing performance – how … Continue reading

The Best Reality TV Family – The Roloffs

I stumbled upon the Learning Channel show “Little People, Big World” quite by chance. One day, about a year ago, I was just surfing around and decided to give this show a chance. I am so glad I did! The Roloffs, the stars of “Little People, Big World,” have now become my favorite reality tv family. The family consists of dad Matt, mom Amy, and kids Jeremy, Zachary, Molly, and Jacob. What makes this family so unique? Matt and Amy are dwarfs, while kids Jeremy, Molly, and Jacob are all of average size. Son Zachary is their only child that … Continue reading

According to news reports, former Spice Girl, Victoria Beckham is reportedly in talks to appear in her own reality TV show. Kids and Reality TV

I’m sure you are familiar with the many hits reality television shows have taken from media critics and from children advocacy groups. Some groups have gone so far as to describe reality TV shows as “Gutter TV.” Which is why I was shocked when I learned that one parents’ watchdog group recently made a “surprising announcement.” The group released a report that says it considers some reality shows to be among the best things for kids to watch. The Parents Television Council recently announced its picks for the “Best of Reality TV.” Topping the list was: “American Idol,” followed by … Continue reading
