Business Marketing 101: Benefits of a Business Card

Continuing on with the Business Marketing 101 series, we are going to be looking at the benefits of a business card. My personal favorite resource for this is Vistaprint. They make it easy and very affordable. In fact, many times you can get business cards for free and just pay for shipping. But they also offer other great deals. Creating a business card is beneficial for a number of reasons. Although social networking and other forms of technology can help market your business, you can’t dismiss the good old fashioned business card. You never know who you will run across … Continue reading

Do You Have a Business Card?

Last week, a friend of mine did something that reminded me about a very important yet often overlooked tool of the small business professional. She handed me her business card. My friend is a college student, and she has had a pet sitting business for a while. However, until she handed me her card the other day, I had no idea that she was a pet sitter. While I have not had to hire a pet sitter for my beloved cat Patrick since I took him in almost four years ago, and it is unlikely that I will ever have … Continue reading

Make New Games With Old Business Cards

I’m a big believer in letting kids invent and make up their own games. Not only does it foster creativity and encourage problem solving and thinking skills but it takes twice as long! They have to create the game before they play it. Instead of throwing away old business cards, let your kids play with them. Or buy a pack or two of index cards if you don’t have old business cards cluttering up a drawer. The kids can make their own trading cards by drawing or pasting magazine pictures on them. They can make their own card game. If … Continue reading

Business Cards: Are They Going the Way of Dinosaurs?

I overhead a discussion today regarding business cards, and it made me think about them (which, admittedly, isn’t something I do very often.) It used to be that business cards were your calling card, and a reflection of you, albeit a professional reflection. The thickness of the cardstock, the writing style, the colors used, and the information included (what phone numbers, what addresses, etc) was an encapsulation of the business card holder’s professional life. There were just as many different business card holders available as there were styles of business cards: Desktop holders, plastic wallet organizers, and everything in between. … Continue reading

Do You Really Need Business Cards?

I don’t have business cards. This doesn’t mean that I haven’t had them. I’ve held various positions where business cards were provided and I’ve even done my own a time or two for my freelancing and consulting work. Over the years, however, I’ve phased out the use of business cards and found other ways of promoting myself and my business that work just as well (or better)—but that doesn’t mean that business cards aren’t still a fine promotional tool for entrepreneurs promoting their home-based businesses. I know other business owners who swear by business cards. It gives them an easy … Continue reading

Mobile Credit Card Processing – Is It Right For Your Business?

Getting paid. It is at the forefront of every home-based professional’s mind at least one or more times each day, in the form of thoughts like “When is client x going to pay that invoice”, “I have to make time to get to the bank to deposit these checks”, and “Why aren’t there credit card processing systems that are geared towards the needs of home-based professionals like me”. Fortunately, although I cannot tell you when client x is going to pay (hopefully soon) or run to the bank for you, I can tell you about recent innovations in credit card … Continue reading

Should You Send Holiday Cards (or Gifts) From Your Home Business?

It used to be standard faire for even small businesses to mail out holiday cards this time of year, or send out the annual calendar. But with the rising cost of postage and concern about being politically correct, many small businesses find themselves wondering whether or not to send out cards or even spring for the classic fruit basket? I still think holiday cards are a nice touch—but it will depend on several factors: what sort of time do you have to do them? Would you rather do something hand-written or pre-embossed—each sends a different message (homey and personal or … Continue reading
