The State of New York wants parents to protect their infants and children from motor vehicle accidents, which is the leading cause of death for children ages 1 through 13. Car seats provide that protection. New York enacted an updated car seat law that went into effect on November 1, 2019. New York’s first car seat law went into effect on April 1, 1982. New York Regulation Makes Autism Coverage Difficult

Insurance companies in New York are required to cover the costs of applied behavior analysis. This went into effect in 2011. Now, a new state regulation has popped up that would greatly reduce the number of providers for ABA therapy that the insurance companies would cover. This will make it harder for families to afford the therapy that their children require. In 2011, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a law that required health insurance companies to cover the cost of autism services. A federal investigation has resulted in the dismantling of an auto insurance fraud ring that was working in New York. This group managed to scam insurance companies out of $279 million dollars, by filing bogus claims. They were able to do this by taking advantage of New York’s no-fault auto insurance.
