An Air Force Brat, A Marine Corps Wife…

I’ve sat here staring at a blinking mouse trying to decide how to start off this military blog. Finally, I decided you’d probably want to know exactly who I am and why I thought I might have something to say. So, here goes. I’m Elizajane202 and military has been my entire life, first as an Air Force Brat until my father retired and then I married my Marine. Trust me I’ve heard all those jokes between the AF and USMC, it has become quite common that whenever there is a family gathering someone must come up with the best joke. … Continue reading

Marines Gone Wild

Have you been invited to a Marine Corps Ball lately? If not, chances are you aren’t quite famous enough. I am kidding, of course. Since becoming a Marine wife, I have attended several balls, held each November to honor the founding date of the Marine Corps. Think of it as a prom for Marines on their company’s birthday. It is a big deal – everyone dresses up, then eats and dances after a ceremony to honor all Marines past and present. The only ball I’ve been to that had anyone even remotely famous was one we attended out in San … Continue reading

Marine Christmas Poem for Your Scrapbook

Here is a great poem to add to your scrapbooking page if your loved one is a Marine: A Marine’s Night Before Christmas Author: This was written by an unknown Marine “Twas the night before Christmas, he lived all alone, in a one-bedroom house made of plaster and stone. I had come down the chimney with presents to give, and to see just who in this house did live. I looked all about, a strange sight I did see, no tinsel, no presents, not even a tree. No stocking by mantle, just boots filled with sand, on the wall hung … Continue reading

Berkeley vs. the Marines

I don’t know if you noticed the story, but there seems to be a war going on in California – with city of Berkeley vs. the Marines. I will try to not write this with a slanted bias (my husband is a Marine). It appears that the community of Berkeley is against the war, and therefore, they are against having a Marine recruiting center in their town. There have been people protesting outside the Marine recruiting center on Shattuck Avenue. One of the organizers of the protest, Zanne Joy with the anti-war group Code Pink said that anything legal should … Continue reading

Beyonce Can’t Catch a Break

Although young, beautiful and talented, it seems as if Beyonce simply cannot catch a break.  The singer gave birth to her first child, daughter Blue Ivy, last January.  But, before she gave birth, there was a rumor going around that she wasn’t really pregnant and that she had a surrogate carrying the baby after an Australian interview seemed to show her baby belly deflate upon sitting. Then, there was controversy over the fact that Beyonce and hubby Jay-Z reportedly dropped $1.3 million to reserve the entire floor of the Lenox Hospital where Blue Ivy was born.  Parents claimed that they … Continue reading

Memorable Memorial Day Layouts

For most people, the long Memorial Day weekend means picnics, road trips and beach time with friends and family. While cookouts and camaraderie are memorable components of the holiday, the real reason for the three-day weekend has to do with hard work and heroes. Thanks to the men and women, who comprise this country’s military, we are able to enjoy a litany of freedoms. Their selflessness and bravery should be honored, and there’s no better way to do so than with a scrapbook layout or an entire memory album. Fortunately, you don’t have to be an advanced scrapper to design … Continue reading

Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo Split

Poor Jessica Simpson recently found herself not only without a beau, but dumped the day before her 29th birthday! There didn’t seem to be many hints to the end of her relationship with Dallas Cowboy quarterback Tony Romo. In fact, a reporter from PEOPLE magazine asked Romo just weeks ago what he planned to get Simpson for her birthday and was told “It’s a secret.” Unfortunately, it was a well kept secret and not a good one. Romo reportedly broke up with Simpson on July 9th – the day before her birthday. Simpson ended up celebrating her big day quietly … Continue reading

The History of the Toys for Tots Program

You have probably seen advertisement in your local community for the Toys for Tots program. This is the program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve that gives toys to needy children in the community. The program was started in 1947 by Major Bill Hendricks for the Los Angeles, California area. The first year, Major Hendricks collected 5,000 toys, with the first being a Raggedy Ann Doll made by Hendrick’s wife, Diane. Seeing there was a need for such a program, in 1948, it went national. The United States Marine Corps adopted the program as a project for its … Continue reading
