Building Relationships that Bond

Last week I started taking a weekly parenting course titled “Effective Parenting in a Defective World.” A large group of us met together to watch a video that is about 20-30 minutes long and then broke out into smaller groups to discuss how the main points apply to our individual lives. I love this format because it uses media from a nationally known teacher who is also a parent of grown children so he has lots of hands on experience, and then we get to talk with others about our own personal experiences. Over the next several weeks, I will … Continue reading

Building a Hedge Around Your Marriage

You may have heard the terminology of building a hedge around your marriage. I first became familiar with this term while listening to a pastor at church preach on the subject. But even if you aren’t religious, you can use this advice to help protect your marriage. Did you know that 70 percent of all married men and 60 percent of all married women have had affairs? This information comes from Dr. Holly Hein, author of the book, Sexual Detours. That translates roughly into only one out of three marriages where the husband and the wife are completely faithful to … Continue reading

Strategic Business Relationships

Networking is one thing—going to events and parties in hopes that you can meet more people and spread the word about your home business. It is quite another thing to look at your business relationships with some strategy. ‘Who’ should you meet and get to know and where can you go to meet them? ‘Who’ can really help you in your business and what is the best way to go about not only establishing, but also building and solidifying that relationship? It may seem somehow tricky or manipulative to have a strategy when it comes to business relationships, but it … Continue reading

Building Trust from the Beginning

Trust is the cornerstone of solid relationships—regardless of whether they are friendships, close personal connections, or business relationships with clients and customers. Since even the most initial interactions do count in cultivating business relationships, it is important to build trust from the very beginning. I actually believe it is easier to build trust with business relationships than most people think. It starts with very basic things like returning phone calls, giving honest and factual information, and listening to what the other person is saying. Following through on promises or going that extra mile to find the information that a person … Continue reading

Relationships Are Important In Business–But Don’t Abuse Them

I often write about how important networking and relationships are to building a strong home business. Business really is ALL ABOUT relationships, as far as I am concerned, but that doesn’t necessarily translate into quantity or intensity. Sure, you want to keep broadening your sphere of influence, but there is such as a thing as putting too much pressure on your friends, family and colleagues and abusing those very relationships you need to sustain your business. I have mentioned before that I have an extensive background working in nonprofit management and fund development. One of the things I learned in … Continue reading

Work Those Relationships!

I don’t think that enough can be said about networking when it comes to building our home businesses. And, while it is important to constantly be fishing for prospects and looking for new relationships that could benefit our businesses, we have to pay close attention to our existing relationships too. If there was one phrase of advice I could give to anyone thinking about or already operating a home-based business, it would be to work those relationships! But, what does this mean? What it doesn’t mean is to pester and try to slam people into being more involved with your … Continue reading
